Your page...

Part of our English class involves reading books that you enjoy independently on your own. Every term you are responsible for reporting on a new book you’ve readLaus.jpg during that term. The book must be fiction, be grade level/reading level appropriate. Not picture or cartoon books for this please. If you have a doubt, ask me. Therewill be occasional times for independent reading (silent) in class, possibly weekly. It is assumed that you will attempt a book that is new to you as opposed to something you've read in the past.

OK, your Wiki page consists of TEN things...

  • The title and author, and the reasons why you ended up choosing this particular book
  • The genre the book fits into. (This means the category, like young adult fiction, mystery, fantasy, science fiction, vampire fiction, etc. Many books fit into more than one genre. Why does the book fit the genres you claim it does? (200 words)

Just pick one at a time.
  • At least one section of summary of the plot (but don’t tell the end!).
  • A section discussing three characters. Not just what they do, but who they are, with quotes to support what you say about them. Use quotes from the book when describing characters. (500 words total min,)
  • At least one section discussing themes and “big ideas” found in the book. Avoid retelling the plot. (250 words min.)
  • At least one section of discussion of a major conflict or problem in the story. (250 words min.
  • An symbolic image that YOU CREATE that fits an aspect of the book, with an explanation of the symbolic connection. (100 words min.) This could be anything from a scanned drawing to a photograph you've taken, a video you made, anything visual and original.
  • Five new or unusual words (not character or place names) you found in the story, the example sentence in which you found them, and YOUR definition.
  • At section discussing existing works (such as art, literature, music, film) that have similar qualities as the story you read. What other works does this book remind you of? (250 words min.)
  • A link to your goodreads.com review. Your review follows the same guidelines as the curricular/required class books.

The name of your page needs to have your real name in it, so we can tell who's who.
Each of the 10 elements is necessary. Writing is based on a standard rubric that takes into account spelling, grammar, organization, style and readability, and content (use of details and specifics). Assume the reader knows little or nothing about the book. Also assume that the whole world will be able to see your page.

Your Quarter One page needs to be complete by October 9th. It should not be completed before the first of October.
